Skip the $15 smoothie bar line. This Ninja Creami acai bowl is thick, creamy, packed with protein, and costs a fraction of what you'd pay at a juice shop.
I got hooked on acai bowls years ago but couldn't justify the price (or the sugar bomb most shops serve). So I started experimenting with my Ninja Creami, and after tweaking this recipe dozens of times, I finally nailed it: a superfood-packed bowl that's thicker than any blender version, loaded with protein from cottage cheese, and naturally sweetened without all the hidden sugars.
The Ninja Creami transforms this into something special. Unlike regular blender acai bowls that can get watery or thin out as you eat, this one stays thick and scoopable from the first bite to the last. It's basically acai ice cream you can eat for breakfast without the guilt.

Why You'll Love This Acai Bowl
- Super thick and creamy - No more watery, runny bowls. The Ninja Creami creates ice-cream-like texture.
- High in protein - Cottage cheese adds protein without changing the flavor.
- Antioxidant powerhouse - Acai berries are one of the most antioxidant-rich foods on the planet.
- Saves money - Make cafe-quality bowls at home for a fraction of the cost ($2-3 vs $12-15).
- No added sugar - Naturally sweetened with banana and monk fruit.
- Dairy-free option available - Easy swaps make this vegan-friendly.
- Perfect for meal prep - Prep multiple pints and spin fresh bowls all week.
What Is Acai?
Acai (pronounced ah-sigh-EE) is a small, deep purple berry that grows on palm trees in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. The berries spoil crazy fast, so you almost never see them fresh unless you’re basically standing in Brazil right now. That’s why most of us buy it as frozen puree packs or powder.
Flavor-wise, it’s not “sweet berry” like strawberries. It’s more like a berry-meets-dark-chocolate vibe, a little earthy, and super good in a thick, spoonable bowl.
Frozen Acai Packs vs. Acai Powder
You’ll usually see acai two ways: frozen packs (puree) or powder. Frozen packs are my go-to for Ninja Creami-style bowls because they blend into that thick, smooth base with the real acai flavor and the signature dark purple color. They’re usually in the frozen fruit section, and brands like Sambazon are easy to find.
Acai powder works if that’s what you’ve got, but it’s more concentrated and can taste a little more earthy. It also doesn’t add much “bulk,” so you often need extra frozen fruit (or a little more liquid) to get the same thick texture you’d get from a frozen pack.
If you want the easiest, most reliable results, grab the frozen packs.
🛒Ingredients You'll Need
For this recipe, I use:

- Sambazon Organic Acai Superfruit Smoothie Pack – The key ingredient! Frozen acai makes this bowl thick and rich.
- Coconut milk – Adds a creamy, dairy-free base.
- Banana – Naturally sweetens and thickens the smoothie. Use frozen or fresh.
- Blueberries – Enhances flavor and boosts antioxidants.
- Cottage cheese – Adds protein and creaminess.
- Coconut milk – Adds a creamy, dairy-free base.
- Monk fruit sweetener – A zero-calorie natural sweetener.
See recipe card for quantities.
Substitution and Additions
- Sub coconut milk with almond, oat, or dairy milk.
- Swap cottage cheese for Greek yogurt for a tangier taste.
- Add protein powder or nut butter for an extra protein boost.
- Use frozen strawberries, blackberries, or raspberries for variety.
- For natural color, swap purple food coloring with blueberries.
- Replace monk fruit with honey or white sugar (equal parts).
How to Make Acai Smoothie Bowl

- Spin in Ninja CREAMi: After freezing, insert the pint into the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe and select the “Lite Ice Cream” setting.

- Re-spin if needed: If the texture is too crumbly, add 1-2 tablespoon of coconut milk and re-spin until smooth and creamy.

- Top & enjoy! Add your favorite toppings and dig in!

Which Ninja Creami Setting to Use?
Different Ninja Creami models have different options:
- Ninja Creami Deluxe: Use Lite Ice Cream setting (no Smoothie Bowl option on this model)
- Ninja Creami Original/Breeze: Use Smoothie Bowl or Lite Ice Cream setting
Both work well. Lite Ice Cream tends to produce a slightly thicker, more ice-cream-like texture, while Smoothie Bowl is designed specifically for this type of recipe. Experiment to see which you prefer.
🍽️What Goes Well With This
- Iced matcha latte – Refreshing and pairs well with acai.
- Whole grain toast with almond butter – A balanced breakfast.
- Chia seed pudding – A creamy complement.
- Greek yogurt with honey – Extra protein and probiotics.
- Homemade granola bars – Great for meal prep.
- Fresh fruit platter – Keeps things light and fresh.
- Oatmeal – A warm, hearty contrast.
- Green smoothie – Another nutrient-packed drink to go with it!
Storage & Make-Ahead Tips
Storing leftovers: Keep it in the Ninja Creami pint with the lid on. Smooth the top flat before refreezing so it respins evenly and keeps the blade happy.
Eating it later: It will freeze solid. Either respin with a splash of milk, or let it sit on the counter for 10 to 15 minutes to soften.
Batch prep: Blend 3 to 4 bases at once, pour into pints, freeze, then spin one whenever you want. It’s the easiest way to have thick acai bowls ready fast.
How long it lasts: Best within 2 to 3 weeks. After that, you may notice more ice crystals.
👪Serving Size
This recipe makes 4 servings using the Ninja CREAMi Deluxe.
Using the standard 16-oz pint? Use two-thirds of all ingredient amounts.
🌀Tools You’ll Need
- Blender: Makes mixing ingredients effortless.
- Ninja CREAMi Deluxe 11-in-1 Ice Cream & Frozen Treat Maker: The star of the show, perfect for creating creamy, smooth ice cream.
- Ninja Creami Pint Container: The pint container is essential for freezing and churning your ice cream mix.
Tips for Success
- Thaw acai packs slightly before blending. Rock-hard frozen packs can burn out your blender motor.
- Use frozen fruit for a thicker base. Fresh fruit makes the base thinner.
- Taste before freezing. The base should be slightly sweeter than you want.
- Level the surface before freezing to protect the blade.
- Don't overfill past the max line.
- Let it rest before spinning if the pint is extremely frozen. 5 minutes at room temp helps.
- Expect to respin. Fruit-based recipes almost always need 1-2 respins.
- Add liquid during respin if crumbly. Just 1-2 tablespoons at a time.
- Top generously! The toppings are half the fun.
