Notes
Go easy on the mint flavoring at first. Mint extract and flavor oils vary a lot in strength. Start with the listed amount, blend, taste, then add a tiny extra drop if needed. You can always add more, but you cannot un-mint toothpaste.
Blend the cottage cheese really smooth. If your blender is weak, blend the cottage cheese with the half and half first for 20 to 30 seconds, then add everything else. This avoids that occasional grainy finish.
Freeze on a level surface for 24 hours. A flat freeze helps the blade shave evenly. If it freezes at an angle, you can get crumbly edges and a dense middle.
Crumbly after the first spin is normal. Add 1 to 2 tablespoons milk (or half and half) and hit Respin. For this base, 1 tablespoon is often enough.
Do not add Oreos before freezing if you want chunks. If you blend cookies into the base, they basically dissolve and tint the whole pint gray. Still tasty, but not cookies and cream vibes.
Best Oreo texture trick. Spin the base first, then add crushed Oreos on Mix-In. Use bigger pieces than you think. The Creami breaks them down a bit.
If it turns out too minty, fix it. Add more plain base next time, or serve with extra Oreo pieces and a drizzle of condensed milk. The sweetness helps tame the mint.
If it is too soft after respin, refreeze 10 to 15 minutes. Especially in a warm kitchen. Creami pints can go from perfect to soft-serve real fast.
Leftovers tip that saves your blade. Smooth the top before refreezing. When you respin later, let the pint sit out 5 minutes first so the blade is not attacking an ice cliff.
Microwave hack, but be gentle. 10 to 15 seconds on defrost can help if you do not want to respin. Stop when the sides look slightly glossy, not melted.
